CSU-Pomona, New Science Building Replacement, Chiller Plant, and Engineering Laboratory Replacement Addition ($60 million combined)

There were three distinct projects that were interrelated and therefore managed as a single program.  The first of the three was a new Science Building.  The project was over 100,000 square feet and contains classrooms, laboratory and office space.  Tight site conditions and activity of adjacent occupied facilities creates a challenge during the construction of the project.  The project budget was $24.0 million.  The second project of the three was the Engineering Laboratory Replacement.  This new facility replaced several existing facilities.  The new structure also was in excess of 100,000 SF and had a budget of $27.0 million.  The initial phase of this project was the Hazardous Materials Abatement and Demolition of some existing buildings to make room for the new Engineering Laboratory.  In addition, several existing facilities had to be renovated to accommodate relocation of staff and students.  These projects and bid packages were traditional design, bid and build.  The delivery system for the new Engineering Laboratory is Modified Design/Build.  The third project was a new Chiller Plant.  This project had a budget of $9.0 million.  Both the new Science Building and Engineering Laboratory projects being dependent upon the new Chiller plant for occupancy permits.  In addition, 15 existing facilities on the Campus were tied to the new Chiller Plant.  The Tiburon Group provided Design Phase Project Controls services as well as Construction Phase Schedule Management, Claims Avoidance and Mitigation consultation.
